Choosing the Right Finish for Your Custom Dining Table

Choosing the Right Finish for Your Custom Dining Table

Selecting the right finish for your custom dining table is just as important as choosing the wood species. The finish not only protects the wood from daily wear and tear but also enhances its natural beauty, depth, and color.

There are several types of finishes commonly used in custom woodworking, each with its own benefits. Polyurethane offers a highly durable, water-resistant surface, making it ideal for high-traffic dining tables. It's available in various sheens, from matte to high gloss.

Alternatively, hardwax oils and penetrating oils offer a more natural look and feel. These finishes soak into the wood fibers, providing protection from within while allowing you to feel the actual texture of the wood. While they may require more frequent maintenance than polyurethane, they are often easier to spot-repair if scratched or damaged.
